Shaykh Ahmad Saad
Shaykh Ahmad Muhammad Saad Ash-Shafi’i Al-Azhari Al-Hasani was born into a family of scholars whose lineage goes back to the Prophet ﷺ through his grandson Al-Hasan ibn Ali, Allah be pleased with him, in the northern Egyptian governorate of Monofiyyah, in the Nile Delta.
Shaykh Saad completed the memorization of the Holy Qur’an at the age of ten at the hands of his father and studied basic Arabic and Islamic sciences with focus on the sciences of Arabic language (‘Ulum Al-‘Arabiyyah) before enrolling into Al-Azhar system of schools where he studied from 1988 to 2004 graduating with a B.A. Honours in Islamic Studies in English and finishing his post graduate years. Shaykh Saad led his first prayer at the age of 13, and delivered his first Khutbah at the age of 15. Since then, he has been involved in dawah work and spreading traditional knowledge of Islam.
Shaykh Saad is the founder and director of the UK-based Ihsan Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies. He is currently living in London and travels internationally, as an Imam, speaker and lecturer.
Baraka Blue
Baraka Blue is a highly acclaimed rapper and poet hailing from Seattle and based in Oakland, California. He has performed all over North America as well as the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. He is highly decorated within the global artist community for his original synthesis of spoken word poetry with the tradition of mystical poets such as Rumi and Hafiz. His most recent book of poetry is entitled ‘Reedbed Diaspora’. In addition to performances, he has taught classes and led creative writing workshops internationally. His sophomore album, ‘Majunun’s Lost Memoirs’ can be heard in cafes and concert halls all around the globe.

Our friends from Little Anya’s Dreamland and dedicated volunteers will be providing childcare during this year’s Mawlid.
There will be a space for children 0 to 6 years old, and another space for children 7 to 12 years old. Any children over the age of 12 are welcome to join the Mawlid program, or can choose to be part of the childcare.
Snacks will be provided, but please be aware that we cannot accommodate special meals.
The doors to CKUA will open at 6:00 PM. The Mawlid program will begin at 6:30 PM.
The Mawlid program will, God willing, end at 11:00 PM.
Paid parking is available all around the CKUA building, including paid street parking, and paid Impark and Diamond Lot parking.
CKUA is also located in the heart of Edmonton, and is easily accessible by LRT and bus.
Yes! Childcare for the Mawlid is available for children under the age of 12. Children over 12 are welcome to join the Mawlid, or attend the childcare program.
Any children attending the Mawlid must be registered beforehand. Please see the “Childcare” section above to register your child/children.
